A result to savour for Rothwell
Philip Rothwell sent out his first winner since the end of May when he saddled a one two in the Graun Hill Handicap Hurdle as Ta Blazes (33s in the morning into 12/1) beat Mount Welcome (33/1) at Tramore by a neck.
Declan Bates rode the victorious daughter of Mr Combustible and the front runner fought back to prevail after being headed before two out.
Rothwell said: "Our horses have been really healthy for the last few months but we've just had no luck.
"I fancied her (Ta Blazes) today. She had good maiden hurdle and bumper form.
"She got hurt at Bellewstown and then got left at the start at Downpatrick after that.
"John Lecky from the North owns her and this is the only day he has missed seeing her run. He bred her as well but he is playing golf today.
"As regards Mount Welcome, we put the tongue-tie on him again today but I was surprised to see him where he was. It's a great result and I'm delighted." Maturus Ardor pulled up before the last here and his rider Davy Russell reported that he travelled well before stopping quickly.
