The Clonmel Oil Slan Abhaile INH Flat Race saw Willie Mullins complete a 15 to 1 plus four-timer at Powerstown Park as Tactical Move rounded off an excellent session for the Closutton team.
Patrick Mullins was bringing up a personal double here, in the Gold Cup winning colours of Joe and Marie Donnelly. The record breaking amateur rider won the opener aboard Kalanisi Og
Out of a half-sister to Denman, Tactical Move, a former Donnchadh Doyle placed ‘pointer,’ brought his form figures to ‘221’ after the silver medal he secured at Punchestown 194 days back. Idas Boy threatened big danger in the straight but Tactical Move found a decisive change of gear when required to prevail by a length and three parts.
They left Moyode Gold twenty four lengths back in third.
The other Mullins winners on the afternoon were Vis Ta Loi (Danny Mullins) and Douvan (Paul Townend) and after the latest success the champion trainer said: "It was great to win a bumper with him and I don't think we're going to go for a winners' bumper with him.
"He'll go straight hurdling now and will go chasing then next season. It's not normally what we do but he missed last year and we only got to run him once.
"He is a horse I want to get out over fences sooner rather than later.
"We're trying to fit bumper horses from last year into hurdles and get them all going and get the season going."
