17 the record as Art rounds off Weld's week
Fittingly Dermot Weld's last runner of the week at the Galway Festival, Comedic Art took the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden with Leigh Roche in the saddle, bringing the undisputed King of Ballybrit's tally to an amazing seventeen for the week.
The winning 3yo filly by Dansili, was having her fourth career start today having finished a close up third on her last two outings at Killarney and Down Royal respectively. Jazz Girl attempted to make all with Leigh Roche settling his mount in third. She then moved into second three furlongs from home before being ridden into the lead under two furlongs out. She went clear inside the final furlong and stayed on well to score by three lengths.
Having opened this morning at 11/10, the winner drifted on track out to 13/8 at the off. Landenstown Lady ran a nice race, staying on well to take second at 20/1 for her trainer John Halley with Davy Condon aboard while Jazz Girl finished a further length back in third at 7/2.
Kris Weld son of the winning trainer Dermot said afterwards: "It's been a great week and that was a very sweet way to round it off.
"I'm glad for Leigh who is a local boy. Robbie (McNamara) has had his winners and obviously Pat (Smullen) has had a wonderful week, so its good that Leigh got one on the board.
"He rode her very well and she will go for a Handicap next."
