Declan Queally reports Rocky’s Diamond in good form following his highly creditable run in the Stayers’ Hurdle at Cheltenham and the progressive young gelding could now be aimed at the Punchestown Festival.

The five-year-old has progressed in leaps and bounds this season winning the Grade 2 John Mulhern Galmoy Hurdle at Gowran before filling fourth spot behind Bob Olinger in the Paddy Power Stayers’ Hurdle.

The comparable three-mile Grade 1 at Punchestown is now on the agenda with Queally stating, “Rocky's Diamond is grand and could go to Punchestown for the Stayers Hurdle if we get juice in the ground.

“It was a brilliant run in Cheltenham and after Punchestown, we'll talk to his owner and decide whether or not to stay over hurdles or go over fences next season.”

Rocky’s Howya also travelled over from the Cappagh yard for the St James’s Place Festival Challenge Cup Open Hunters’ Chase at Cheltenham but dropped away tamely after the third last to finish towards rear.

The multiple point-to-point winner is set to be on the sidelines for some time with Queally adding, “Rocky's Howya got a sinus problem travelling and is now out for the season. He wasn't right over there."

The Queally team are enjoying a best ever season with 22 winners already on the board and over €330,000 in prizemoney.
