Willie McCreery sent out his first winner at the festival when Kanes Pass ran out a convincing winner of the seven-furlong handicap at Galway.
In-form apprentice Ronan Whelan had his mount prominent throughout and kicked for home a furlong out.
The 14/1 shot (paid €28.50 Tote) pulled clear in the closing stages to record a three-and-a-quarter length success over Sharp And Smart
The winner had been competing mainly at sprint distances and was well held on her last start over six furlongs at Naas on heavy ground.
“The draw is all important here,” said McCreery afterwards.
“I told him to jump and reel her back for cover to give her a chance and he did exactly that.
“Pat Cosgrove has been a great supporter of mine and I'm delighted for him as he bred her himself. He's only back from France an hour ago or he would have been here.
“That's my first winner here. I've not had many runners and haven't had much luck around here.”
