Escape aiming to justify price in Land Rover The racecourse debut of point-to-point winner Rapid Escape is one of the more interesting aspects to the 100,000 euro Goffs Land Rover Bumper at Punchestown. This fellow's home reputation was mirrored by the betting when he competed at the Bray Harriers point-to-point at Tinahely in February. The attractive chestnut went off a 4-7 shot in the hands of Jamie Codd for a four-year-old maiden. He duly impressed when eclipsing Henry's Joy by 10 lengths. Rapid Escape was racing for owner Chris Donnelly at that stage, and a stable representative revealed in the aftermath that the youngster is very straightforward and high on the list of the four-year-olds housed at Cullentra House Stables. It was no surprise then when the Elliott runner was offered for sale through Tattersalls Ireland at the Cheltenham festival, that he was retained by the leading yard of the campaign. Gigginstown House Stud acquired Rapid Escape for £240,000, and they will no doubt be hoping to quickly recoup a portion of that purchase price here. Codd has chosen to retain the partnership in this hugely competitive two-miler, ahead of another Gigginstown and Gordon Elliott former 'pointer,' Valdieu, the mount of Lisa O'Neill here. Patrick Mullins continues his quest to overhaul Codd in the race to be champion amateur as he teams up with Joseph O'Brien on the now JP McManus-owned course and distance winner Early Doors. That's intriguing when one considers that Willie Mullins sends first timer Hollowgraphic (Katie Walsh up) into battle. This Ballylinch Stud contender has a lot going for him on paper. The festival earlier kicks off with the Ladies Cup. Regulars from this contest, Enniskillen and Treo Eile, are there with their chances again. As ever Enda Bolger's runners - Blue Templar and Equal Status - need consideration. Elsewhere the Grade B Killashee Handicap Hurdle has a smaller field than usual with eleven due to go to post. Gordon Elliott has three engaged and Veinard might be the one after his Fairyhouse second placing. Davy Russell takes the reins.
