Having won aboard Down In Neworleans for his mother Mags on Thursday, Danny Mullins repeated the dose today, but this time for his father Tony, as he partnered Clarach to victory in the inaugural running of Easyfix EBF Mares Handicap Hurdle.
The 6yo daughter of Beneficial won her maiden hurdle at Killarney back in May at 20/1 and ran well in two handicap hurdle since at Gowran and Ballinrobe respectively.
Her last two runs have come on the level however and she put in good performances to finish third on both occasions
On her last start at Ballinrobe behind Giant's Quest, Danny Mullins lost second place close home and was suspended by the stewards for five days as a result. However he got that suspension down to three days upon appeal.
Today she was held up off the pace and came with her challenge before the second last. She was travelling best from there and despite letting Benefit Of Porter kick on before the straight, she pegged her back at the last and was ridden to assert on the run-in, scoring by four and a half lengths at the line.
The second Benefit Of Porter was returned at 7/1 as was One for Joules (backed from 12/1 this morning) who finished a further seven lengths back in third.
The 9/2 favourite Apt Manor for Willie Mullins and Paul Townend finished just out of the placings back in fourth.
Winning trainer Tony Mullins said afterwards: "That was the plan for a long time, we had it in our head's. I was afraid she wouldn't come up the hill as she does tend to empty.
"She was ridden into the race today and that's the way she will be ridden from now on. It help that there was two making a strong pace.
"Hopefully there is more to come with her. She is not a big filly but she is a cat to jump and may go over fences in time."
Peter Jon Carberry was taken to hospital after his fall from Amazon Warrior with a suspected broken wrist.
