Ger Lyons has his juvenile team in great order at present and Tuwaiq looks another nice prospect after making a winning debut in the Irish EBF Median Sires Series (C&G) Maiden at Bellewstown.
The Glenburnie Stables team were making it six two-year-old winners in the space of just nine days here as the son of Elzaam got on top close home under Colin Keane. Mount Fairweather made the running in this near mile event and still held the call a furlong out.
However, Tuwaiq really got motoring from this point and the well-backed 11/10 favourite struck the front inside the final 100 yards to score by a length.
Lyons’ brother and assistant Shane said, “It was a very good performance by horse and jockey. We thought he’d be green today and there will be improvement.
“He’s a first horse for Dr Ali Al Mutairi who was recommended to us by David Stack from Coolagown Stud.
“Colin was very sympathetic on him and he answered his calls.
“They have done a great job on the ground here. They have put a little bit more water on but that’s no harm. I walked it and it’s very spongy — for a track like this that’s the way it should be.”
