Tesseract wins as Avenue crashes out

There was drama in the concluding bumper at Tipperary as Tesseract was left to come home an easy winner under Sarah O'Brien.

It was a double for owner JP McManus on the card following the earlier victory of Copy That in the maiden hurdle.

Sarah O'Brien found her mount, trained by father Aidan, keen in the early stages but he arrived to challenge turning for home in the two-mile contest.

Tom Taaffe 's newcomer Sixth Avenue had also came through on the inner to dispute but ducked out and shattered a piece of railing shortly after.

That left Tesseract in command and the even-money favourite galloped on strongly to record a five-and-a-half length success.

"I'm delighted with that and Sarah gave him a good ride. Joseph and the lads always liked him but he was so green when he ran at Punchestown and still ran a big race," said Aidan O'Brien.

"I was afraid when he was the other horse (Sixth Avenue) disappeared but he (Tesseract) only started going and quickened up well. He'll go for a winners' bumper next, probably at Galway."
