Wonder Elzaam a well-backed 5/1 shot, defied top-weight with a nice performance in the Cappella Sansevero At Compas Stallions Handicap at Naas under Luke McAteer.
Fit from racing on the all-weather at Dundalk, the Elzaam gelding had a determined mare in opposition in the shape of Silver Service but he got the better of that grey by a neck.
They left Star Of Cashel the market-leader, three lengths back in third.
“He’s just a machine, a very tough horse. He was carrying a big weight, he goes on any ground and is robust,” said winning trainer Niall Egan.
“He’s mentally better this year and I’m so lucky to have him. He’s so easy to train.
“He’ll go now for the Group 3 Gladness Stakes.”
P.A. Harnett, rider of Star Of Cashel trained by J.A.Stack, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount had to check a furlong from home.
