After scoring on his debut at Dundalk in March, Sruthan followed up in impressive fashion this afternoon, winning the Listed Power EBF Tetrarch Stakes under Chris Hayes.

Trained by Paul Deegan, the son of Arakan was backed on track from 8/1 into 11/2 and having tracked the leaders in the early stages he made headway between horses to lead over a furlong out.

Once he got to the front he kept on well, going away from the 3/1 favourite Fortify to win by two and a half lengths at the line.

Paul Deegan said afterwards; "That was good, he was impressive. Chris said the other horses were getting in his way three furlongs out.

"I thought it was a big ask for him on his second run but I was still confident he’d run well, I didn’t think he would do that.

"He didn’t mind the ground and he will be better on better ground.

"We were ready to run him last season but just weren’t happy with him. We gelded him and within a week he was a different horse, so much more straightforward, so we couldn’t regret doing it.

"The Hyland’s sold him (after he won at Dundalk) but they are still good clients of mine and have Srucahan to run this season. They still have the dam at home and two full-sisters and this fellow has done a lot for the family.

"I’ll chat to the owner (Robert Ng) now, he is a new owner and I’m delighted for him. I don’t know where he will go next but we always thought a bit of him and aiming high I think he could be a Jersey Stakes horse.

"He will stay a mile as well."
