Smullen seen to good effect
The opening race this evening at Cork The Newmarket Maiden was won by the Dermot Weld trained Scarlet O'Hara with Pat Smullen doing the steering for owner Mrs C L Weld.
Kris Weld son of trainer said, "She was very green on her debut run at The Curragh. She won well today and we'll step her up in trip and go for some black type."
Smullen increased his tally of wins this evening to 63 for the season leaving him only one winner behind Fran Berry and Johnny Murtagh who are in joint lead with 64 winners a piece for the Jockeys Championship.
