Shu Lewis a bookies benefit in the bumper
Shu Lewis provided an upset in the Punchestown bumper when coming from last to first to win going away by two-and-a-half lengths for Newbridge trainer Monica Dowdall Blake.
Her 25-year-old niece Linzi Dowdall partnered the five-year-old mare who was returned at 33/1. The jockey said: “We weren’t expecting that run. She picked up well.
"I have to credit Paddy McLaughlin who straightened this mare out. I have ridden winners in America at tracks like Delaware Park and also had nine point-to-point winners out there.”
Tony Martin’s Dedigout took second at 9/1 with another 33/1 outsider Bouillabaisse coming home third. Willie Mullins’ well-touted newcomer the 5/4 favourite Passage Vendome proved disappointing when finishing 18th.
