Paddy Twomey and Billy Lee teamed up to land the opening Gowran Park Golf Club Maiden as Sea The Polaris made all to readily justify odds of 8/11.
The son of Sea The Stars had the eight-runner field well stretched turning in with chief market rival Thor’s Hammer the only threat.
The pair had the race between them inside the final quarter mile and Lee just pushed out his mount for a comfortable three and a half lengths verdict.
There was a 12 lengths gap back to The Expert in third.
Twomey said, “He’s probably more comfortable at that seven or a mile. I thought being a Sea The Stars that we should step him up in trip and it looks like that was the wrong thing to do.
“His mother was quite quick and was a Stakes winning Siyouni filly over five and a half and it looks like he has that sort of pace.
“I’d say he’s adaptable enough ground wise as it was heavy in Galway (on debut last year) and he ran on the all-weather the last day.
“He has a rating, and we’ll see what the handicapper does.”
