Russian Roulette stayed on well for Donie McInerney to land Fairyhouse's two mile handicap hurdle for trainer Charles O'Brien. Like An Open Book made eye-catching headway between the last two flights and a quick, nimble jump at the last looked to have sealed the deal.
However, he didn't stay as stoutly as Russian Roulette on the run-in. McInerney, in the JP McManus silks, drove his mount home on the inner by a length.
A gamble was landed as he was backed from 7/1 down to 9/2 on the off. Youngnedofthehill (10/1) got up in the final strides for second from Like An Open Book (7/1).
He ran well in Navan and obviously came on a little bit from it,” racing manager Frank Berry said.
“It was a great ride from Donie as he didn't give him a lot of help. He kept finding a bit and it's nice to get a win with him.
“He's been running consistently without getting his head in front.”
