Round of applause for Bouillabaisse
Jockey Gerry Mangan’s evening at Punchestown today ended better than it began, winning the concluding Black Hills Bumper on Bouillabaisse a first winner for trainer Catriona Muldoon.
Mangan, who partnered Whatwillwecallher to win at the Punchestown Festival earlier this month, was pencilled in to claim 7lbs from 10st11lbs in the opening Conyngham Cup for the ride on Hollywood Law but his mount was a late withdrawn as Mangan was emerging from a stint in the sauna!
However, the Kerry rider made the best of the opportunity on Bouillabaisse, recording a three and a half lengths win over Rear View
Winning trainer Muldoon, based in Co Kildare, is a Donegal native but received most of her racing education with Co Cork trainer Robert Tyner.
She reported “I went to Enniskillen Agricultural College originally and then spent four or five years with Robert – I was there the year he won the Handlers’ Championship with 48 wins and I have my restricted trainers’ license eight months now. I’ve already had three point to point winners.”
“Bouillabaisse is owned by Eugene McDermott and while he normally sells many of his horses, he is quite keen on this one and will probably be kept. She is a good ground mare and will go hurdling over the next few months.”
