It paid to be prominent in the two and a half mile handicap hurdle in Cork as Razia delivered a significant victory for owner Bill Ryan.
The Marju filly, sporting a hood, forged on from three out and kept up the gallop to score by four and a quarter lengths with David Casey in the plate. Her SP was 12/1. Oscar Vespasian an 11/2 joint favourite, came through for second partnered by Johnny Burke while the remaining places were occupied by Stop Road Lad (20/1) and Sports Line (33/1) respectively.
Trainer Andrew Slattery said: “She should have won before now. I thought she would win in Wexford and then for whatever reason she blew her lead in Tramore.
“I’m delighted for owner Bill Ryan who runs Cormacstown Schooling Grounds in Thurles. He’s 30 years trying to have a winner and he’s had horses with Aidan O’Brien and everyone.
“She wants good ground. She’ll have a break soon and come back for Dundalk.”
