Paul Townend got a great response from Castlerock Rose (3/1) after jumping the last as the pair collared Kashline close to home to win by a length in the two mile five maiden hurdle.
Kashline the 11/10 favourite opened up a lead coming to the penultimate hurdle and got away well from it and the last, but Castlerock Rose did well to grab him and land the spoils having been two lengths down jumping the final flight.
This win gave Towned a quickfire Limerick double after winning the first on Dogora
The winner is trained by Dan Rohan in Lisgoold, Co Cork. Castelrock Rose was backed this morning from 4/1 to 5/2.
“It’s my first win. I’ve had my licence four or five years and I have five horses in training,” Dan Rohan said.
“My horses go point-to-pointing unless they are good enough for the track. I rode about 20 point-to-point winners and was second in a bumper in 1967 here!
“We tossed a coin to see if we would run here or in the mares chase. Paul gave her a great ride. She’ll go for a mares chase now. It’s great to get a hurdle win with her.
“She has been ridden by six champion jockeys – Derek O’Connor, Katie Walsh, Ruby Walsh, Davy Russell, Paul Townend and Paul Carberry.”
