The Aidan O'Brien-trained Point Lonsdale justified his short price with an authoritative display in the Group 2 Futurity Stakes at the Curragh this evening.
The unbeaten son of Australia went to post a 1/6 shot in the seven furlong contest and stretched away in the closing stages to post a four-and-a-quarter length win.
Ryan Moore asked his mount for an effort over two furlongs from home as Maritime Wings travelled well into second.
Point Lonsdale started to assert over a furlong out and really opened up in the closing stages to storm clear of his rival.
It was a fourth win in an unblemished career for the colt who took the Tyros Stakes at Leopardstown last month having won the Chesham at Royal Ascot in June.
“We're delighted with him. He's a lovely straight-forward horse,” said O'Brien.
“He relaxes, he quickens and his head goes down to the ground when you ask him. He's happy to go in front but if someone wants to lead him, great. When you want him he quickens. He's a classy horse.
“He wouldn't like that ground, he wants good or better ideally as he's a lovely mover.
“He'll come back here for the National Stakes, that's the plan.”
