Palm Sur edged out favourite Ballinderry Moth in the Killarney Racegoers Club Mares Bumper but that only tells part of the story in a dramatic finale. Rosshaven Lady appeared to be coming with a winning challenge as the Aidan O'Brien-trained five-year-old heading front-runner Little Mitch over a furlong out.
However Sarah OâBrienâs mount edged left under pressure with the running rail ending at this point, and she carried Little Mitch (ridden by Pa King) with her as the pair crashed through a doll and railing about a further 50 yards on.
Both horses and riders appeared fine afterwards.
This left the evens favourite Ballinderry Moth briefly in front but she also edged left under pressure and bumped Palm Sur, who in the circumstances did really well to battle back up on the inner to gain a neck victory under Steven Clements.
The winner was supported on course from 10/1 into 15/2 but those who backed her can certainly count themselves lucky.
Winning trainer Shay Barry said, "She is usually a bit keen but he dropped her out completely today and was a bit out of her ground.
"She was tough to get back up inside the final furlong and she'll go to Galway for a winners' bumper if she's alright. She is Listed placed so is valuable to breed off now."
