Trainer Ado McGuinness is enjoying a fine year and completed the notable feat of registering a 1-2-3 in a race at Laytown today as his Royal Admiral landed the O'Neills Sports (QR) Handicap under jockey Mark O'Hare.
The winning son of Royal Applause led home stablemates War Hero and Ken's Sam's and afterwards McGuinness stated “we had been running him over a 1m2f and 1m4f and I never thought he had the pace here to take on my two sprinters (over today's 7f) but it's a funny game that he would come and do it.
“He jumped out, made it and stayed going so I'm delighted.
“I thought the other horse was going to go by him two down but he stuck at it well. They are two great riders (O'Hare and Barry O'Neill on the runner-up) and they stuck at it brilliant.”
McGuinness, who won the prestigious Ahonoora Handicap at Galway in August, added “I love having a winner here, we've had a couple of placed horses already today and it's brilliant.
“It's a very unique place, you just have to look at the crowds of people who come here and it's a lovely place to come for a day out. It's super and the committee do a great job of running the place.”
