Ahead of a big day for the stable tomorrow with Siskin favourite for the Tattersalls Irish 2,000 Guineas at the Curragh, Ger Lyons sent out another winner this week when Maker Of Kings triumphed in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF (C & G) Maiden at Gowran.
Like yesterday’s victor for Glenburnie, Frenetic at Navan, Maker Of Kings was guided home by stable jockey and Siskin’s pilot, Colin Keane.
Placed on all four runs at two for Gordon Elliott, Maker Of Kings, owned and bred by Newtown Anner Stud, was here starting off for Lyons and went off the 7/2 second favourite to gain a deserved win.
He engaged in a good duel with market-leader Jungle Cove from the two pole and then held off the ‘finisher,’ Ming Warrior (had been bidding to give Michael O’Callaghan and Leigh Roche a brace) by three parts of a length.
"Seven furlongs is as sharp as he wants but the secret is ground for him; he'd appreciate more ease but Eddie Scally and his team here have done a top class job with the ground," said Lyons' brother Shane.
"There are plenty of options for him and he could step up to a mile next and will eventually go 1m2f."
