Macgiloney sprang an 11/1 surprise (from 14s on-course) in the concluding Loughnagore Flat Race at Kilbeggan this evening, scoring under Barry O'Neill for trainer Denis Hogan.

Without a win in three point-to-point starts, the son of Milan ran well to finish third on his racecourse debut over hurdles at Fairyhouse recently.

Settled in rear by O'Neill, the son of Milan gradually took closer order on the final circuit, and was ridden in third over a furlong out.

He got to the front inside the final furlong, and was pushed out in the closing stages to score by three parts of a length.

Dinions (11/2) finished second under Lisa O'Neill for Gordon Elliott, while the 8/13 favourite Stay Humble was another five lengths back in third for Willie and Patrick Mullins.

Hogan said afterwards: "Barry gave him a lovely ride. It was a small field but it looked a strong bumper on paper. It's only ten days since he was third in a maiden hurdle and he'd only one bit of minor work since so I was hopeful rather than confident.

"I'm delighted for the owner (Michael Moloney) who has been with me a while and this looks a promising horse. He was third in a point-to-point to Danny Kirwan and could have been sold but he's repaid him now.

"He’ll go hurdling now. The horses are running well and hopefully we can go on now and have a good summer."
