Bill Lee gave 6/4 favourite Treasure Trove a brilliant waiting ride to land the Heider Family Stables Round Tower Stakes.
Stamina over six furlongs was the concern for the York Listed winner who was settled towards rear. Lee smuggled her into the race from over a furlong out and the daughter of Siyouni picked up really well in the final 150 yards to beat Ocean Quest by a short head. Coralillo one of two to race apart from the main body of the field in the centre of the track, travelled like a winner for a long way and finished just a neck further back in third.
Winning Paddy Twomey said of owner Craig Bennett's homebred: “It was a big ask to go Saturday, Saturday, Saturday in two different countries.
“She was in great form after she won in York last week. Before she got in the truck three or four hours later she polished off two bowls of nuts. She’s got the mental attitude for it.
“She’s tough, she’s versatile and she’s a two-year-old. They would like to keep her busy. The Breeders Cup Juvenile Sprint on the grass in Keeneland is a possibility.
“Everything she comes out she runs better than the time before, she enjoys it.”
“Shelton didn’t get the clearest of runs but to be fair the winner came from behind. Back to seven and a stronger gallop should suit her.”
