Patrick Street popped up at 28/1 in the second split of Navan's Yellow Furze Handicap over a mile and a-quarter.

Jack Kearney 's orange and white cap could be seen making stealthy headway on the inner racing into the dip.

He got his gap and raced into the lead along the rail a furlong and a-half down. He then took a couple of lengths out of the pursuers at the furlong pole and was ridden to go and win his race.

The four-year-old gelding kept up the gallop to come in by two lengths from Flier (11/1). Lisamaria (4/1f) was another two and a-half lengths back in third with Tortured Soul (22/1) back in fourth.

In a similar story to the first division of this race, this was Patrick Street's first victory on grass having previously enjoyed one win on the Polytrack at Dundalk.

Trainer Pat Martin said: “We've been knocking on the door for the last few weeks and it makes such a difference to get your head in front. When they are running well, you have a chance.

“Jack and me go back a long time. When he was a 12-year-old he started riding out for us and he always had great hands.

“That's his second winner for us and he's got a bright future. I think he has one more winner before he loses the 7lb. He's a smashing young fella.”

On the winner he added: “He ran great in Leopardstown earlier in the year. He blew the start a few times so we put a blanket on him, and a hood, and it seems to help him.

“We gave him a break and he came back fresh, he's been in good order at home and I was expecting him to run well.”
