Joey Sheridan produced a 'worth waiting for' ride on Ice Cold In Alex in the Curragh's Brady Family Supporting Barretstown Handicap today, scoring for trainer Ken Condon and Middleham Park Racing.
Sheridan brought the son of Olden Times from the back of the 26-runner field, coming between horses, to eventually beat runner-up Dixie Bluebell and end the gelding's 18-race losing spell, stretching to August 2018.
Condon wasn't present and afterwards Sheridan, runner-up on Princess Zoe in last week's Ascot Gold Cup, commented “he was probably a bit unlucky the last day and Mr Condon said you can’t ride him safe - he needs all the luck and thankfully he had all the luck today.
“I’m very grateful to Mr Condon and his owners Middleham Park because it’s great to get rides like this on big weekends. It puts you in the shop window.”
Ice Cold In Alex was a 1958 British war film used 40 years later for a black-and-white, 30-second Carlsberg TV ad with actor John Mills, in a hot Alexandria bar, downing a glass of beer and declaring: 'Worth waiting for'.
