Odds-on favourite Carrarea failed in the opener, but there were no such problems for 8/13 shot Gloire D’athon in the second event, the CorkRacecourse.ie Maiden Hurdle.
With a first-time tongue-strap on, the Cheveley Park Stud-owned and Henry de Bromhead-trained Gloire D’athon had Paul Townend aboard.
The champion jockey was always up there on the Doctor Dino gelding who had no trouble in disposing of 50/1 shot, the American-bred 85-rated mare, Rags Kitten by seven lengths.
With Rachael Blackmore out of the reckoning due to suspension, Townend summed things up on this occasion by saying: “He had the experience and I thought the kindness in the ground probably favoured him.
“He was entitled to do that and I'd say he will enjoy jumping a fence as well."
P.J. Carberry, rider of One Hot Poet trained by Matthew J. Smith, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount was pulled up lame.
The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined One Hot Poet, trained by Matthew J. Smith, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be lame right fore post race.
The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Risk Factor trained by Joseph Patrick O'Brien was found to have blood at both nostrils post race, possibly as a result of exercise induced pulmonary haemorrhage.
