Denis Hogan followed up the success of Ridestan in the previous maiden hurdle by completing a 57/1 double aboard Roisin Dubh in the Nire Valley Mares Handicap Hurdle at Clonmel.
Hogan trained and rode Ridestan but this time he just did the steering as the 7/2 favourite was produced with a well-timed challenge in the straight.
Philip Byrne’s charge stayed on well on the run-in to score by three lengths, with Jolaine just out-pointing The Conker Club by a head for second place.
The front-running Kalico Kalista weakened to finish fourth and rider Ryan Treacy picked up a two day suspension for disobeying the starter.
Byrne said, “Fair play to Denis as he gave her a very confident ride. I’d also like to praise JP McNamara (son of winning owner Clare) as he’s a vital part of my yard.
“Hopefully she’ll go in again over hurdles, and she’s also rated 52 on the Flat. She has options of going chasing and could go to Galway.”
