Hayes hoping for more from Mudlahhim after breakthrough

Mudlahhim opened his account in good style when swooping wide to land a nice prize in the €21,000 seven-furlong handicap at Dundalk.

There were seven almost in a line passing the furlong pole but Mudlahhim got his head in front, for Chris Hayes, in the closing stages.

The 10/1 winner had been well held at the Curragh last time after missing the kick in a competitive handicap.

Hayes said:- “He’s a grand horse. It’s hard to believe it took him that long to win when he ran close to Magna Grecia on his first start.

“It took us a while to get a few little things right. He was lucky to come out unscathed after a bad fall in Roscommon.

“The boss did a good job freshening him up. He probably didn’t get home the last 100 yards at Tipperary and Dec (McDonogh) said he was too keen over a mile the last day.

“The drop back to seven suited and he loved the surface.

“He’s in the sales but hopefully they let us keep him. I think he’s only coming to himself now and he could suit Dubai next year.”
