Glounthaune showed a nice attitude when making a winning debut in the opening Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden at the Curragh this afternoon.

The Aidan O'Brien-trained colt went to post 9/4 joint favourite on his debut and was bounced out at the head of affairs by Ryan Moore in the six-furlong heat.

The son of Kodiac was asked for an effort passing the two furlong pole and was a willing partner for Moore.

Fellow market leader Castle Star came with a strong surge inside the final furlong but couldn't find a way past Glountaune, who stuck his head out gamely to record a neck success.

Glounthaune, running in the colours of Evie Stockwell, cost 350,000 guineas as a yearling and is from the family of Irish Derby winner Santiago.

“He’s a nice horse and we’ve always liked him. He’ll go for a winners’ race now and then maybe look at Ascot," said O'Brien.

“He gets six well and looks like he’ll get seven."
