Peculiar Genius landed an on-course gamble (16/1 to 10s on track) to win the Currans South East Cleaners Handicap Hurdle at Tramore today, winning for trainer Paul Nolan and completing a double for jockey David Mullins.
The four year old son of Jeremy was sent to the front after the third last flight and in the end stayed on well to hold the challenge of Ardera Cross by a length and three parts.
Afterwards James Nolan, representing his brother Paul Nolan, stated “it was a quiet Christmas for us with runners so it's nice to get a winner over the festive period.
“He’s a grand little horse, and the light weight in a handicap suited better than running in maidens and the ground also suited him. David gave him a great ride and it worked out well for him.
“He’ll be kept to similar level to that, and we’ll see what Noel (O'Brien, handicapper) does with him and go for another handicap. He is owned by Jim Coffey, who sponsors the yard with his company SoftCo and is a great supporter of the yard - he has a nice bunch of young horses with us."
