Brains recorded the 13th victory of his career, and second in Ireland, when making most in the 50-80 rated handicap over the extended seven and a half furlongs at Roscommon.

Out of traps smartly under Adam Caffrey, the eight-year-old went on halfway down the back straight and was ridden clear inside the final quarter-mile to beat Arch Enemy by two and three quarter lengths.

“He's a grand horse, he's been a prolific winner all his life,” said winning trainer Dick Donohoe.

“We were wondering would he go on soft but he ran well on it in Leopardstown the last day, you need a soft ground horse in this country nowadays!

“(Front-running) is suitable around here all the time. He's always very straightforward, very quick out and always in front. It's a fair old advantage around here.

“He's a good fun horse and I'm delighted for the owner Paul Sweeney who is a good supporter of mine. I'm delighted to get the odd winner for him.

“Ground doesn't seem to matter now so we'll keep going with him while he's running well.”
