Foley back in winners' enclosure

Fri 12th Nov 2010, 21:51

Shane Foley partnered his first winner since returning from injury when Little Bug swooped late in the concluding mile-and-a-quarter handicap at Dundalk.

Foley only returned to action last Saturday having suffered a fractured ankle and collarbone when his intended mount French Express reared over before the start at Bellewstown on August 25th.

He timed his run to perfection on the Noel Meade-trained filly, getting up close home to pip Sports Casual

"That's great. I thought I'd win the Listed race here last week but it didn't go to plan. It's nice to get back in the winners' enclosure," said Foley afterwards.

Meade admitted that he had took a chance with the trip having struggled to get runs into his charge:-

"The only reason I ran her over this trip is I couldn't get her into anything else.

"In fairness he gave her a beautiful ride and I'm glad he's back as he's a lovely lad and a very good rider.

"I thought she might fail in the final furlong but she stayed at it well. Because she wasn't getting in it's a while since she ran and mayybe that's a good thing.

"She won here this time last year and will probably come back here now that's she got her head in front."
