Famous completes treble for Weld and Smullen
Dermot Weld and Pat Smullen completed a treble on the day when Famous Name clung on for victory in the concluding Amethyst Stakes at Leopardstown.
The 1/3 favourite took up the running before the halfway point but was all out close home. King Jock finished well inside the final furlong and only just failed to peg back the hotpot by the narrowest of margins.
"The ground was drying up as the evening went on and that's as fast as he wants it. I probably won't run him on that kind of ground again," said Weld.
"The second horse is a Group 2 winner and loves fast ground. Pat said that even with the ground fast he wants to win and guts and courage won the day.
"Sometime during the year we'd love to have a crack at a Group 1 with him. He's in the Queen Anne at Ascot but that looks unlikely. A lot depends on the ground."
Weld and Smullen had earlier been successful with Bethrah in the 1,000 Guineas Trial and Precious Gem in the Property Properly Handicap.
