Well backed Edification overcame a woeful in-running passage before managing to win the Dundalk Stadium Business Club Handicap (div 2) at Dundalk today for jockey Conor Hoban and trainer Mark Fahey.
Backed on track from 13/2 to 9/2 second favourite, Edification was held up in rear by Hoban for much of the race but once the pair attempted to find racing room early in the home straight, their run was almost continuously blocked.
Edification was 'taken off heels' in an unpromising fifth place with a furlong to race and it was only in the final 150 yards that Edification found clear racing room. He then gobbled up ground, under a hands and heels ride, to scoot past Stealth near the line, for a head win.
Afterwards trainer Fahey, who also works as a farrier for trainer Jessica Harrington, said “we were unlucky the last time and I thought we were going to be unlucky again today. He’s a bit of a character and loves coming between horses.
“He’d a rating of over 80 going back. We just took him home and sweetened him up and it seems to have worked. He’ll be out of the 65 bracket now so we’ll see how far he can go.”
