There was high drama in the Irish EBF Median Sires Series Race at Killarney with Green Triangle throwing away victory late on by crashing through the running rail, handing victory to Ballydoyle newcomer Lambourn

The Joseph O'Brien-trained Green Triangle led at halfway in the mile contest and the 11/10 favourite looked to have the race in the bag when kicking on over a furlong from home.

Wayne Hassett's mount rubbed the rail early inside the final furlong and then jinked left close home and went through the railing. Luckily he just missed the winning post before coming back through the rail on to the course again.

Lambourn looked set to finish an eye-catching second under Wayne Lordan, having run greenly, before being presented with the race.

The Aidan O'Brien-trained winner, returned a 6/1 shot, is an Australia colt out of Queen Mary runner-up Gossamer Wings.

Stable representative Chris Armstrong said:- "It was an eventful race and you don't really like to win them on those terms but he is a horse who has been coming along nicely at home and is still very raw.

"He missed the start and never really travelled but Wayne felt as soon as he turned in, that he was really going to finish off.

“He was doing his best work in the last furlong-and-a-half and will be a lovely middle-distance horse for next year.

"He now fits in nicely for those back-end two-year-old races over a mile and typical of the sire, is laidback and has a very good attitude. He will come on a lot from it and it looked an above average race."
