After a consistent spell in handicap hurdle company the Colin Bowe trained Whiskey And Red transferred that form to the larger obstacles as he took the second division of the Ken Whelan Hangs Up His Boots Handicap Chase.

The 7yo son of Craigsteel was providing his jockey Bryan Cooper with a double on the card following his earlier victory aboard Forpadydeplasterer

Sent off the 7/2 joint favourite he tracked the leaders for much of the race before making headway into third approaching the fourth last.

He was second entering the straight and he challenged Another Flutter (10/1) at the last before hitting the front and keeping on well on the run-in to score by five lengths at the line from the aforementioned Maureen Danagher trained Another Flutter in second with John Cullen aboard.

The Pat Carey trained Code Dancer (33/1) finished six and a half lengths back in third under Robbie Moran while Robertstown Rover (20/1) completed the placings fifteen lengths back in fourth under Mark Enright for Kevin McDonagh.

The other 7/2 joint favourite was Lascalahall for Fran Flood and Mark Walsh but he could only manage a disappointing sixth while the friendless in the betting Clashnabrook (9/4 favourite this morning out to 4/1 at the off) was a well beaten fifth under Phillip Enright for Eoghan O'Grady.

Colin Bowe said afterwards: "He will go for another handicap around Christmas time."
