Lenny Flynn recorded his first track winner in well over a year as he partnered the Denis Hogan trained Cerveza Dinero to victory in the Munster National 14th October Handicap Hurdle for Qualified Riders.
Flynn, who claims just three pounds, rode his last winner in February of 2011 at Thurles where he partnered the Maureen Danagher trained Another Flutter to victory.
Having won over the course in May, the winning 8yo son of Karinga Bay, disappointed on his last three efforts.
However he was still well fancied to get back to winning ways this evening and having opened at 10/1 with Paddy Powers this morning he was backed into 8's before opening on track at 11/2 and going off the 6/1 second favourite.
Always prominent he got on terms with the leaders approaching the straight and soon hit the front.
He wasn’t fluent at the second last but he stayed on well under pressure to score by three parts of a length at the line.
The John Clifford trained Kilcross Boy finished an unlucky second at 8/1 under Jamie Codd after he was left short of room on the inner as they race up the home straight.
The John O’Shea trained 16/1 shot Moonlight Sapphire finished a half a length back in third while Craigs Dream finished a further two and a quarter lengths back in fourth at 7/1 for Michael Hourigan.
Winning trainer Denis Hogan said afterwards: "It’s a long time since he got good ground. He was running on the wrong ground all along but the sun came out for him today.
"I’m delighted for the owners (the Winonesoon Syndicate). That is their third win with this fellow and they have been with me from the very start.
"He has an entry at Galway and although his weight will rise after today he still probably won’t get in. I think today was his Derby."
