Cronin scores on Jambalaya
Jambalaya gave 16-year-old jockey Seamus Cronin his first winner when landing a seven furlong handicap at Naas for trainer David Wachman.
It was Cronin’s third ride and his boss was delighted. Wachman said: “Seamus gave him a good ride. He is a good young lad and is nice and light.
“Hopefully he will get plenty of opportunities. He has been with me since February. He has ridden pony racing winners so has plenty of experience."
Cronin and Jambalaya collared Rory Cleary and Independent Girl in the final furlong to win by half a length. The runner-up had attempted to make all at 12/1.
The well-punted Joe Eile (12/1 to 7/1) stayed on late to take third under Keagan Latham.
A gamble on David Wachman’s other runner, Maundays Bay (9/1 to 13/2), went awry as that filly finished sixth.
