Bottom-weight Pandagreen overcame a wide draw in 14 and a torrid passage in-running before providing her trainer Gavin Cromwell with his first two year old winner, in the opening Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Auction Race at Leopardstown today.
Ridden by Wayne Lordan, the once-raced filly was forced to race wide throughout and received a hefty bump from horses on her inside before halfway. However the daughter of Casamento responded gamely to chase the leaders into the home straight, before in the end staying on well to edge to the front close home, for a half length win over Lady Volante
Afterwards Grade 1 winning trainer Cromwell stated ““I bought her at Goffs for €9,500 and she's one of my best purchases — she's a cheap filly.
“It was a good performance as she was drawn wide and got a bump that cost her a few lengths.
“It's great to win a two-year-old race with her as she's so big - that's my first two-year-old winner and I have six of them in training.”
“I'll probably give her a break now and look for something at the back-end of the year. She could be nice next year.”
