Following on from Tenebrism and Elliptic, first season sire Caravaggio has another exciting filly strutting their stuff for the O’Briens as Contarelli Chapel impressed in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden at Naas.
Ryan Moore donned the Westerberg silks on the Ballydoyle debutant, owned by German born Swiss billionaire Georg von Opel, along with her breeders, the Coolmore partners.
Despite still being a little green, the 6/4 favourite careered away in the final furlong to beat market-rival Juncture (checked under a furlong out) by five and a half lengths.
Winning trainer Aidan O’Brien said: “She was never let off the bridle at home and we knew that she would be very green when he did drop her but she was very impressive.
“I would imagine she is an Albany type filly. She might come back here (on May 16) before that.”
Paddy Power go 6/1 1st show Contarelli Chapel for the Albany Stakes.
The Stewards reviewed an incident inside the final furlong involving Freedom Of Speech ridden by K.J. Manning and Juncture (GB), ridden by C.T. Keane, where it appeared that Juncture (GB) hesitated for a stride. Having viewed the recording and considered the matter, the Stewards were satisfied that no further action was warranted.
