Carroll hits lead as Mutamiez lands gamble
Youm Mutamiez justified strong support to land the three-year-old mile maiden at Dundalk for Paul Deegan.
Gary Carroll moved one clear in the apprentice race as the son of Seeking The Gold ran out an impressive winner.
Despite missing the kick, the 5/2 shot (from 4/1) soon tracked the leaders and moved into contention travelling well at the two furlong mark.
He quickly hit the front, with Carroll looking around for non-exsistent dangers, and kept on strongly from over a furlong out to post a two-and-a-half length verdict over long time leader Swing Pattern (9/4f).
"He's a nice horse and we've always thought a bit of him. I didn't have him as a two-year-old but he had his problems," said Deegan.
"That's him for the year and we'll bring him back for something like the Gladness Stakes.
"The only worry was being drawn one, it can be the best draw or the worst, but he had the pace to get himself out.
"If anything he got there a bit soon. He could have done with a lead a bit longer but he'll learn a lot from it and will improve."
