Carey & Gorey gain a very welcome winner
Paddy Carey (992 days and 96 runners) and Shane Gorey (227 days and 80 rides) got themselves off the cold lists when their reserve, Driveheron got into the John Buckley Auctioneers Handicap and ran out a comprehensive five length winner.
On her second start for Carey, the victorious daughter of Catcher In The Rye led a furlong and a half out and she went on to defeat the staying on Walter De La Mare
Carey commented: "I fancied her and told the boys to back her each-way. We were waiting for a bit of cut in the ground and she stayed at it well. She has improved since I got her eight weeks ago."
Driverheron is owned by Michael Fitzpatrick, an English-based business man that is in the pub game. Some will remember that Driveheron was the subject of a big morning price move on her debut at the Listowel Festival. She was then under the care of Andy Slattery.
The gamble here, Gypsy Rose (8s into 4s) could only manage 12th.
