Lenny Flynn and Seamus Braddish both enjoyed a welcome change of fortune when Brogine was produced with a well-timed challenge to land the Kullens Kitchen Thomastown Mares Maiden Hurdle at Gowran Park.
Braddish, who trains near Askeaton, returned to the winners’ enclosure for the first time since the daughter of Milan landed a Ballinrobe bumper nearly two years ago, while Flynn was celebrating his first winner in over six years.
The seven-year-old, available at 12/1 this morning and sent off at 8/1, led on the run-in to beat Lakemilan by a length and three quarters with Gracemount a length further away in third.
Braddish said, “She has had some minor problems but we knew she was back to herself after running at Ballinrobe last time and we expected a big run today.
“I haven’t really thought about where we would go next but there is a mares’ handicap at Killarney and there is also a race at Limerick. The ground is the key to her.”
