Nineteen set off but the BetVictor Maiden Hurdle at Gowran boiled down to concern just three from before the straight. As in the opener at the County Kilkenny venue the market had it right again as Voix Des Tiep (15/8 into 11/8) prevailed.
Willie Mullins saddled three here and his nephew David was on the right one as Voix Des Tiep fended off outsider La Tektor by a length and a quarter, with the winner’s market rival, The Gunner Murphy (6/4) two and a quarter lengths back in third.
“Even though he wants a longer trip I just came here for the ground. I think ground is crucial for him," stated Willie Mullins.
“He’ll go out in trip ideally on this type of ground.”
The Stewards fined Robert Tyner, trainer, €350 for lodging a passport in respect of Bay Ambition, in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provisions of Rule 91. The Stewards ordered the withdrawal of Bay Ambition in accordance with the provisions of Rule 90.
At the request of the Stewards, B.J. Cooper, rider of Alcatraz trained by Paul Nolan, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount made a bad mistake at the last on the first circuit. .
At the request of the Stewards, B. Browne, rider of Good Ol Days trained by Oliver McKiernan, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount ran very free and was green early on.
P. Townend, rider of Queens Boulevard (GB) trained by W.P. Mullins, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount stopped quickly three out.
The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined Alcatraz, trained by Paul Nolan, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to have skin scrapes on his right forearm and to be otherwise post race normal.
