Wisdom makes it a magnificent seven for Weld
Dermot Weld recorded a treble for the second successive day and brought his tally so far at this year's Festival to seven winners when Font Of Wisdom readily landed prohibitive odds of 30/100 in the concluding Tote Return All Profits to Irish Racing Maiden.
At The Races presenter Matt Chapman was a guest commentator for this race, and called it in typically colourful fashion as he cried “rush to the bookies” as Pat Smullen's mount went clear in the straight to beat Jolie Jioconde (9/2) by five lengths.
There was a sizeable gap of 18 lengths back to Dame Shanakill (12/1) in third.
Weld said, “He did it nicely and I thought he'd be hard to beat, especially when the bit of rain came. He has been very backward but progressed well from his last run at Fairyhouse. It was not the greatest of maidens but he'll probably go for a winners-of-one now and I believe he'll make into a Listed horse.”
Reflecting on the week so far, he added, “I'm very pleased with the way things are going, and seven winners is a very good total. It will get harder from here.”
