Point-to-point winner Very Wood s intended track debut has been delayed due to the ground, but it was worth the wait, and he sent favourite backers home from Punchestown happy when taking the Finlay Motor Group INH Flat Race.
Bringing up a double for the Gordon Elliott, after Mount Benbulben s win thirty five minutes earlier, Jane Mangan's mount, Very Wood had to overcome his share of adversity before prevailing.
The successful French-bred is a lovely young prospect and he shrugged aside some of the trouble he got in running, eventually running out a four and three parts of a length winner from Value At Risk
Elliott said: "He's a nice horse – he's still a big baby and he's a 3 mile chaser in the making.
"He was flat out early. He's a nice horse for the future – he wants a summer's grass and we'll see what happens.
"I don't know what happened at the start – I'd like to see it again.
"I got a fright early doors when he was last and off the bridle." (GC & EM)
