CHASE (CLASS 4) (Hereford Mares' Handicap Chase Series Qualifier) An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference on the run to the line when the winner Spitfire Girl (IRE), ridden by Will Featherstone interfered with Kym Eyre (IRE), placed second ridden by Isabel Williams.
Being a 10lb claiming conditional, Will Featherstone was accompanied in the enquiry by a senior rider.
The Stewards considered that the interference had improved Spitfire Girl (IRE)’s placing as Spitfire Girl (IRE) had carried Kym Eyre (IRE) off its intended line by several horses’s widths and for a significant distance from the final fence to the line, and made contact with KIM EYRE on two occasions, the second of which was in the final strides to the line.
The Stewards were satisfied that with an uninterrupted run to the line KIM EYRE would have finished in front of Spitfire Girl due to the amount of ground lost by KIM EYRE being more than the winning margin of a short head, and revised the placings as follows: First: KIM EYRE(IRE), Second: Spitfire Girl (IRE), Third: Pageant Material (IRE), Fourth: HARRY’S HOTTIE (IRE).
Featherstone was suspended for 2 days for careless riding as he allowed his mount to drift left-handed for a significant distance without timely correction intimidating KIM EYRE (IRE) notably off its intended line.
It was noted that Reine Fee (IRE), unplaced, was badly hampered at the third fence by the fall of Rosearelli (GB).
Following the race, Liam Harrison reported that Harry's Hottie (IRE), placed fourth, made a jumping error at the tenth fence.
