Review TIPPERARY 27TH JUL

John Murtagh teamed up with trainer Eddie Lynam to complete a double aboard Brooklyn and Henry Afrika at Tipperary.

Murtagh successfully adopted front-running tactics on Brooklyn in the Cashel Maiden, eased down in the closing stages to beat Solid Approach by a length and a half.

'I thought he was a superstar earlier in the year. We decided to force the pace today, and Johnny said he was a different horse', said Lynam.

Murtagh moved onto the 44 winner mark for the campaign when producing Henry Afrika to lead just inside the final furlong to beat Jacks Estate by a length and a half in the Kilfeacle Handicap.

The Meathman is now four clear of his great rival Michael Kinane at the head of the jockeys table.

Jessica Harrington celebrated her recent election as the trainers representative on the board of Horse Racing Ireland by saddling Orchestral Springs to take the opening Derrinstown Stud Apprentice Handicap.

Paul Scallan, who partners Ice Dancer in the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes at Ascot today, produced the former Frank Berry-trained filly with a well-timed challenge to beat Load And Lock by a length.

Moonbi Ridge quickened up nicely at the furlong pole for Declan McDonogh to beat Domenico by three and a half lengths in the Dundrum Maiden. The winner is trained on the Curragh by Mary Rose Hayes, sister of former National Hunt jockey Willie Robinson.

Ger Kennedy, who trains under permit 'just down the road from Edward O'Grady', was on the mark when La Shalak gained a hard-earned victory in division one of the Powerstown Maiden Hurdle. The Shalford filly, who supplied Kennedy with his only previous win when successful on the Flat at Clonmel last year, prevailed by three quarters of a length under Willie Slattery after an exciting duel with Pagan Streams.
