Down Royal goes ahead following precautionary inspection

Today's meeting at Down Royal goes ahead (first race 11.40am) following a precautionary inspection. There are three Irish meetings in total with the four-day Christmas Festival fixtures at Leopardstown and Limerick both commencing this afternoon.

A precautionary inspection was called for Down Royal late yesterday evening due to a status yellow weather warning for ice and low temperatures.

The going at the northern venue is currently soft, yielding to soft in places, following 15mm of rain since declarations. The forecast is for a cool and blustery day with maximum temperatures of 4C and the chance of showers (3mm approx).

The going at Leopardstown is now soft on the hurdle course and yielding, soft in places, on the chase course following 18mm of rain since declarations. The first on a seven-race card gets underway at mid-day.

There is also a seven-race card at Limerick beginning at 12.25 with the feature event being the Grade 1 Guinness Faugheen Novice Chase (at 2.40).

The going at Limerick is currently soft to heavy, heavy in places, after 31mm of rain since declarations.
